STEVEN GERRARD??

Postby LeeTheRed on Thu Mar 11, 2010 3:33 pm

Just had a conversation with one of the (in my opinion) best fans in our group, and I found we disagreed on something....

Steven Gerrards performance.

You know how I like to voice my opinion, so here goes........

I think that throughout this season, especially this calender year, Gerrard hasn't kicked his own arse for fear of breaking the finger he has lodged in it, looking a shadow of his former self and, more importantly, reeking of a player that has tasted the realisation that he isn't looking like winning the major honours he deserves in his current team.

Would anyone agree or disagree with this?

What are your thoughts on Stevie G's performance/attitude/input now?

Get your thoughts heard, be honest, have your say!

(Please don't give me all of this Centurion/Istanbul/FA Cup memories, this season and going forward is what is relevant)

Gerrards most recent performnce against Wigan was terrible, i would say he was the worst player on the pitch.
As for the whole season, along with the whole team he has not stepped upto the standard he has set previously, IMO i thought that was because of the position he was playing in. Sitting in behind Torres worked a treat last season but if Gerrarad doesnt have Torres in front of him, he's lost. Also we had Alonso and the passage of play went through midfield this season if seems as though its a hoof and chase it. Against Wigan he was meant to be in his favoured central midfield position......for what ever reason he didnt look like a player who wanted to play there
Gerrards set plays are also shocking, how many times does he fail to beat the first man from a corner, has he scored a free kick this season??

Something is definitely wrong with him. Whether it's the World Cup or something else remains to be seen, I guess we'll find out next season (if he stays at Anfield).

Nobody goes from being that good last season to being so poor now, just because two of his team-mates have been missing.

He's got a lot to prove tonight, and, given Aquilani's decent cameo the other night, if he's anonymous again he could find himself dropped for the Pompey game.

Just read that only 43% of his passes tonight found a team-mate. Embarrasing.

Lets be honest. He has been fucking hopeless for 90% of the season and deserves to be dropped if it is only to rest him so he can get his head in the right place which it clearly isnt.
As much as Rafa does not seem to motivating the team off the field Gerrard as captain does not seem to be doing the work on the field. Listening to Teddy Sherringham (not a habit im used too) for an unbiased view that i feel is representative of a lot of professionals. Gerrard is a central midfield player and given an opportunty to go back to playing there consistantly is in the top three players in the world.
I honestly feel he see`s the world cup as an opportunity to achieve something historic and he has 1 eye on that for sure, Had we been within 6 points of the top of the table at this moment in time would se see a different Gerrard .... yes i think we would.
i can however understand Gerrards frustrations and I think he has proved his loyalty without question to Liverpool, a loyalty that may seem him as a player who never wins a premier league total. If that is what is going on his head then perhaps he should be more thankful for what he has achieved rather than what he hasnt. although would i feel the same in a similar situation...... probably yes.

According to the stat men, Masch, Lucas, Carra, Kuyt and Insua all have a better pass rate than Gerrard this season, Gerrard finishing second to Alonso last season.
